Career NCO Degrees Program

Career Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Degrees Program of the College of the American Soldier

The College of the American Soldier consists of two education pathways, the Career NCO Degrees Program and the Enlisted Education Program.

Overview of the College of the American Soldier

  • Enhances leadership and warfighting capabilities and grows the multi skilled NCO characteristics
  • Is accepted and supported by the American Council on Education (ACE)
  • Provides flexibility in degree completion time
  • Maximize credit transfer between colleges
  • Maximize college credit for military training and education
  • Minimize academic residency requirements
  • Includes courses on-site at installations and through distance/online learning

All degrees in the College of the American Soldier have a superscripted 'c' after the degree title if the degree is listed in the GoArmyEd portal.

The Career NCO Degrees Program expands existing civilian higher education degree choices to provide Career NCOs with broad preparation degree options with college credit for specific NCOES courses taken throughout their careers, and that:

  • Provide flexibility in degree completion time
  • Maximize credit transfer between colleges
  • Maximize college credit for military training and education
  • Minimize academic residency requirements
  • Provide business- and management-related degrees

The program is aimed toward Combat Arms NCOs; however, the program is open to Soldiers in all MOSs.

Degrees selected for the program are all SOCAD degrees and available to Soldiers through GoArmyEd. Degrees are offered both through distance/online learning and in traditional classroom settings on or near military installations. Degrees are identified as part of this program within the SOC Degree Network System Handbook and in U.S. Army’s Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) professional development materials. Contact the college Point of Contact for more information on how credit from your NCOES training can be applied to a Career NCO Degree.

TRADOC works in conjunction with HQ ACES, GoArmyEd, SOCAD, and SOCAD colleges whose degrees participate in this program.

NOTE: To view degree requirements, do the following:

  1. Fully-developed degree plans: Search for degree by college, then click on degree title to view degree requirements. "Career NCO Degree" is identified in the GoArmyEd degree map header (page 1 of a degree map).
  2. Drop-down degrees: Search for degree by college, contact the college point of contact to obtain the degree requirements. Drop-down degrees are identified by a superscripted 'd'.
  3. For schools without fully-developed or drop-down degrees, contact the college point of contact to obtain the degree requirements. Soldiers will need an Army Education Counselor to approve Home College and Degree Plan selected. The Soldier is required to deliver his/her Tuition Assistance Authorization (TA) to the college when registering for classes, this will alert the school that the student is using GoArmyEd.

Discuss your professional development options, including Career NCO Degrees, with an Army Education Counselor.
