Federal TA
How Do I Qualify?

Currently serving in the Army National Guard, not flagged and eligibility determined by either Tier 1 or Tier 2. In addition your ETS or MRD must be after the completion date.

Officers and Warrant Officers are subject to a four year Reserve Duty Service Obligation (RDSO) OR two year Active Duty Service Obligation (ADSO). Unit flags prevent use of TA funding until flag is successfully resolved by your unit.
Tier 1
No Bachelor's Degree and want to pursue an Associates, Bachelors or Certificate program (OR) if you have completed a Bachelors Degree and didn't use (any) Federal TA funding. Eligibility: Complete Advanced Individual Training (AIT), Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) or Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC)
Tier 2
Completed a Bachelors Degree and use (any) Federal TA funding and want to pursue a Masters (Graduate) Degree. Eligibility: Complete Advanced Leadership Course (ALC), Warrant Officer Advanced Course (WOAC) or Captains Career Course (CCC)
What Do I Get?

FTA will pay up to $250 per semester hour(SH)/$165 per quarter hour(QH) up to 16 SH/24QH per fiscal year

Lifetime limits: 21 SH/31 QH to complete a certificate program, 130 Undergraduate SH/195 QH (Associates and/or Bachelors Degree) and 39 Graduate SH/58 QH (Master's Degree)

FTA may pay towards the cost of tuition ONLY IF:

o The college/university is regionally or nationally accredited and is a GoArmyEd participant

o The course must award college credit (semester hours, quarters hours or clock hours)

o The funded course(s) meets a requirement in your documented degree plan from the school (this can include prerequisite courses) -->> Federal Tuition Assistance Flyer <<--

o Maintain an undergraduate GPA of 2.0 for FTA-funded courses and graduate GPA of 3.0 for FTA-funded courses

o Is NOT used in conjunction with Chapter 1606 MGIB-SR or Chapter 1607 REAP

         No minimum number of credits required each term - you can take 1 class at a time if you want
         FTA may pay toward one credential at each of the following levels:

o Undergraduate level certificate, Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree and Master's level certificate/Degree

>First Professional Degrees NOT eligible (i.e. doctorate degrees, juris doctorates, etc.)

Programs NOT Eligible for FTA

Courses leading to a credential that is lower or lateral to the highest credential you have already been awarded

o Example: if you have a Bachelor’s Degree (even if you came in the Guard with one), you cannot use TA to pursue a second Bachelors or an Associate’s Degree

Any program that bundles tuition and fees together into a lump sum

         Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or courses that do not meet degree requirement

State TA
How Do I Qualify?
              Current Member of the Oregon National Guard
            o  Attend an Oregon public college or university
             Complete any military basic training
              o   Have a passing annual physical fitness test 
              o  Not flagged and attending drill 
              o Have a 2.0 GPA or higher  (if currently attending college)
     o  Not already achieved a Bachelor's Degree or higher
What Do I Get?
             o 90 credits to complete an Associates Degree
      o 180 credits to complete a Bachelors Degree                                                         
      o Tuition only - no fees 
      o At this time doesn't include certificates or Masters Degrees                                                      
  How Do I Apply?

Complete each of these requirements. It is not necessary to complete them in order.

   o Create a Student Profile with the Office of Student Access and Completion (OSAC)
   o Complete an Oregon National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program application
   o Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
   o Apply for Federal Tuition Assistance (GoArmyEd) and submit your FTA authorization form to your school

Application Deadlines
   o Fall Term: September 1
   o Winter Term: December 1
   o Spring Term: March 1
GI Bill
Apply for your GI Bill through the VA website at http://www.vets.gov
Don't forget to upload a copy of your supporting documents that verify eligibility. If you are applying for the Chapter 1606 MGIB upload a copy of your Notice of Eligibility (NOBE), Ch30 or the Chapter 33/Post 9/11, upload a copy of your DD 214 that verify eligible active duty time. If you contracted for the GI Bill Kicker be sure and upload a copy of your kicker contract.
The Army Personnel Testing (APT) encompasses standardized test to determine eligibility for specialized training and to support the Army's personnel selection and classification process, including language proficiency testing. Currently, the Oregon Army National Guard Education Office offers the following tests: Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT), Selection Instrument Flight Training (SIFT), Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT), Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) and Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Soldiers interested in taking an APT at this location must contact their unit to obtain a completed a DA 4187 prior to scheduling an appointment with this office.
