 Functional Academic Skills Training (FAST) Class

Basic Skills Education Program (BSEP) classes, part of the Functional Academic Skills Training (FAST) program, provide Soldiers with on-duty instruction in reading and math. The goal is to improve job performance, prepare Soldiers for more advanced schooling, increase reenlistment options and enhance train-ability.

FAST Classes are schedule from 0800-1200 (Classroom Instruction 15 days – 60 hours of classroom instruction.) Upon completion of class, the soldier’s progress is assessed. The Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT) is then administered for those who decide they are ready for the test. The AFCT will be given (Web Based Test) after the last day of class.

Program Eligibility:
Soldiers with a General Technical (GT) score below 110.
Soldiers who require academic development for MOS reclassification/commissioned officer programs.

Enrollment:

Soldier visits their local Army Education Office to sign in to see a counselor.
Counselor gives soldier an enrollment form for On-Duty training to take to his/her Commander for signature. Soldier is officially enrolled in class when the form is returned to the Education Office with the Commander’s signature

*DA 4187 and ERB are required to be able to take the AFCT (ASVAB Re-Take) at the end of the FAST Class.

Soldiers can find free practice tests at the OASC & CPSC site: http://www.nelnetsolutions.com/dantes/. Soldiers fill out the new user information and take 3 full-length practice tests, get detailed answer explanations and find out what they still need to study.

Also, study materials can be found through your AKO-Self Service-My Library-Practice Taking ASVAB, CLEP or DSST.

You can also check out study materials through the integrated Learning Center on Eglin. They are located in BLD 825 and can be contacted at 850-882-9308.
